President, Orleans Parish Medical Society
It is with great enthusiasm that I welcome you to the newly revamped Orleans Parish Medical Society website. For too long, this website has been dormant. We envision this site to be an extension of the mission of the Orleans Parish Medical Society to foster good health and education to the citizens of the metropolitan New Orleans area and to act as a sounding board for critical health issues which affect our region.
I was installed as President of The Orleans Parish Medical Society (OPMS) on March 6, 2026. The following is an excerpt from my acceptance speech. “Organized Medicine is facing many challenges in 2026, especially in this state with the assault on the Malpractice Cap, rise of Artificial Intelligence affecting every aspect of health care from supply chain logistics, marketing, imaging, advertising and triage. We also face challenges with the injection of politics and pseudo-science with basic health care decisions such as vaccinations and provider-payer relationships. Looking to the future, OPMS needs to increase our membership base, especially with younger physicians. We need to expand our value proposition to be able to attract and retain these younger physicians for the continued growth of the organization. These are just a few of our existing challenges.
We as doctors cannot do this alone. We need partnerships with all the stakeholders involved in the healthcare system; from our first responders to pharmaceutical companies, medical schools, healthcare systems, insurers and labor unions representing healthcare workers. We need all your voices to articulate our community. Our first responders are vital as they often provide the initial gateway to the healthcare system; especially our EMTs, Paramedics< Fire and Police personnel, and their services are deeply appreciated. We need to work together with one voice to make sure that our communities remain healthy in mind, body and spirit.”
Welcome to the inaugural relaunching of the OPMS website! Be sure to visit frequently for updates and new information.
Thank You,
Emmett B. Chapital, Jr MD, MBA, FACC, FASNC
